With Palo Verde being known for its academics, it is very clear that we have teachers that put in hardwork and dedication for their students to be academically successful. It just so happens to be that AP Human Geography and World History Honors teacher, Natellie Newman, is one of them.

Born in Florida, Mrs. Newman grew up with her dad being a college professor who also happened to teach history. After moving to Arizona and then eventually settling in Nevada, Newman started going to community college early, where her father taught, her sophomore year of high school. When she finally finished going to community college, Mrs. Newman went to UNR to get her bachelor’s degree. Once finishing her bachelor’s degree, she then went to UNLV to finish her Masters.

Mrs. Newman has always loved history since the day she started learning about it. Specifically, the era of World War II intrigues her the most because of the human nature it teaches.

“World War II is my favorite time era. I love reading about how people lived and interacted. Reading books and aspects of this time period really helps me educate myself and others so much more,” she explains.

Once the college life had ended, travelling became a big factor in Newman’s life; Morocco especially has a place in her heart.

“When travelling, you can learn more about history, and thankfully I’ve been able to travel around the world. I lived in Morocco for two years and taught computers,” she says.

While living in Morocco, Newman loved learning the culture; her love for history grew even more while abroad.

After her time in Morocco, Newman came back to teach worldly government and truly discover her passion for teaching. Here, after ten years at Palo, Mrs. Newman has grown to love this school and the environment we provide.

“I love the students and my friends/colleagues here. Teaching here makes me so happy because I get to decide on what I want to teach and see students be successful at it,” she says.

It is clear that Newman’s way of teaching has made students academically successful and her teaching tactics are working. Mrs. Newman cares so much about her students and wants them to use their historical thinking in real life scenarios.

“The fact that I can teach historical content to students and have them learn it; that is such an amazing feeling,” she explains.

Mrs. Newman has greatly impacted her students lives from teaching them the knowledge they need to change the world. With her ten years at Palo, Mrs. Newman has no plans to go anywhere and wants to continue on teaching at Palo for the years to come.
