This past week has weighed heavy on all of the hearts of the Palo Verde community.

On Feb. 12, 2018, Palo Verde and its community was shaken by the sore loss of beloved teacher Mr. Hechter. Several students, both current and former reached out to spread their love and condolences to both the family and community.  Marc Hechter will be most remembered for his quick wit, one-liners, irreplaceable personality, and unparalleled teaching ability.

According to his obituary, Marc Steven Hechter was born May 25, `1952 in Queens, NY, and served in the US Navy in the Vietnam war before being honorably discharged. Hechter had been teaching at Palo for over 17 years, as well as an economics instructor at the College of Southern Nevada. He was a key component in jumpstarting the school’s International Baccalaureate Program, and was loved and adored by coworkers and students alike.

On Feb. 13, panthers held a candlelight memorial for Mr. Hechter, expressing tear-filled goodbyes and remembrances.

Students and staff are working to assemble a bulletin board in honor of Mr. Hechter in the 200s hallway.

Many are grateful for the impact and memories Marc has left behind, even several years after graduating from his courses. Words do not and will not be able to express the sadness and grief the community feels at the moment, but they also cannot express the admiration and happiness left behind by Hechter’s legacy.
