Score- Palo Verde 29-6

It was an exciting night on August 23rd at Mojave High School, where our Palo Verde Panthers’ Varsity Football team brought home their first win of the season.

Palo won the coin toss, kicking off in the first half. The game started off slow. After a few minutes into the game, offensive lineman Zach Moore (#9) tried to make it into the end zone but was called offsides.

The score was 0- 0 after the first quarter, but in the second quarter, Panther Quarterback, Jacob Siqueiros (#12), scored the first touchdown. Then, kicker, Zach Moore (#9), made a field goal to bring the score to 7-0 in the second quarter. Palo followed that up with a safety call, scoring 2 more points, leading the Mojave Mustangs 9-0.

Mojave’s #6, scored the Mustangs’ first touchdown yet the two point conversion was botched, bringing the score to 9-6. Palo went into halftime, leading the game 9-6.

The Palo Panthers came out of halftime with a vengeance.

At the start of the start of the third quarter, #12 Panther Quarterback snuck by the defensive line of the Mustangs making the score 15-6. The extra point was achieved, once again, by Moore (#9). A scary moment in the 3rd quarter occurred when Full Back, Nate Kuryliw (#43), was injured on a play.

However, Panther spirit came out when Matt Schaffer (#4) and Landon Cooper (#52) carried Kuryliw off the field.

At the beginning of the 4th quarter, Karsonne Winters (#11) ran in a touchdown from the 4th yard line, making the score 21-6. Kicker Moore (#9) followed up with yet another extra point to bring the to an impressive 22-6.

Then, Wing Back, Jaylin Henderson (#1), scored a touchdown and Moore kicked the extra point, to up the score 29-6. After that touchdown, Palo decided to run the clock for a strategic and celebratory end.

All in all, it was an impressive season opener under the Thursday Night Lights. Let’s hope that the guys’ performance tonight was a sign for a memorable season.

Go Panthers!
