On August 16, 2018, a talented musician and songwriter by the glorious name of Aretha Franklin passed away. She was 76 years old. She had already been in the hospital just days before because of her physical condition that seemed to be getting worse as the days went on. Not only was she a talented gospel and R&B singer, but she was a wife, a mother, a sister, and a grandmother. Her voice touched so many people’s hearts. Her presence never went unnoticed. Many singers, women and men, looked up to her unique tone and her unforgettable personality. She was strongly independent in her words and her music showed it. She was often called the Queen of Soul, because her voice made people cry out of happiness. She never disappointed when she was brought onto the stage. She had been nominated and handed various awards starting with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1992, and ending with The BET Honors Awards for Musical Arts in 2014. A popular song she sang (which boosted her iconic career quickly) was the hit called “Respect.” The song appeared on so many tv networks and movies from then and now; shows including “Scandal,” and “Glow,” which are both Netflix series, and movies including “Forrest Gump,” and  “Akeelah and the Bee.” If it came on the radio today people would still jam along to the catchy tune. She accomplished so many things in her life, which she was able to live long enough to see. Aretha Franklin will be missed, but never forgotten. Her sensational spirit will continue to linger on amongst the generation in which she left her mark on and her legacy will live amongst her children. She will rest in harmonial peace
