Starting on Tuesday, Sept 4, students were required to wear their color-coded lanyard with their IDs on them. The colors represent each grade: freshmen-lime green, sophomores-green, juniors -white, and seniors-black. Actions of not wearing the lanyards will result in punishment from the dean’s office. If a student loses their lanyard it can be replaced for five dollars.

Many students have different reactions concerning the lanyard. Being a student myself, I have wondered what is the purpose of this strange, unknown requirement? An interview with Ms. Carque revealed a lot about this lanyard mystery.

Mrs. Carque stated, “By students wearing color-coded lanyards, we can ensure that every student on campus belongs to us. We’ll be able to tell what grade they are in and if they’re one of our students by looking at their ID card”.

It is safe to say these lanyards are meant to keep students safe and keep people who aren’t supposed to be on campus off.

Mrs. Carque establishes the administration’s main goal.  Instituting these lanyards is for student’s safety.

Along with safety, it monitors students more.

“If a kid is sitting in the senior quad saying they have an open period and their lanyard isn’t a senior color we can tell they’re not really a senior, and we can cut down on kids not being in class,” states Carque.

In the end, no matter how people feel about these lanyards, they are meant to keep students safe and benefit the Palo community overall.
