Last Friday evening, a heap of Palo Panthers gathered around, in black shirts, to enjoy the tailgate party before the varsity blackout football game against Las Vegas High School. It was a great way for students to show school spirit and hang out with friends. There were hamburgers being grilled, outdoor games played, music playing, friends to see, and refreshing drinks to cope with the Las Vegas heat.

“The tailgate was a good idea because it’s a way for students to show school spirit, and it brings the students together,” Junior, Logan Kralig, commented.

In addition to the fact that there was free food for the first two hundred people wearing black, there were games organized by student council. Games such as cornhole and trashcan pong were an extremely fun way to get the attendees pumped up for the game.

Sophomore, Xavier Williams, confessed, “To be honest, the only reason I came was because I heard there would be cute boys.”

Like Xavier, many students saw the tailgate’s social aspect as a great way to meet up with old friends. Others saw it as a opportunity to make new ones.

Junior, Juliana Ritchie, noted that, “I think we should have more tailgate parties, but next time maybe doing it indoors or in the shade because it’s really hot.”

Senior, Leo Dubick, explained, “I came to the tailgate party to show my school spirit.”

If the school hosts a tailgate party again, I would encourage more students to come show their Palo pride. It was a very energetic atmosphere and nearly everyone who attended had a great time. Spread the word and be sure to join us next time!
