The Panthers of Palo Verde played their game against the Green Valley Gators on Sept. 3rd with an intensity that won them the winning title with a tremendous 3-0 score.

“I felt like against Green Valley the boys played their most complete game, always on the attack and the defense did a great job limiting the Gator’s chances,” Coach Gomez said.

The game started off just like any other, with Palo quickly gaining possession of the ball first. They put up a fight by exhibiting skillful passing techniques early on in the game.

Sneaking his way toward the goal, senior Antonio Gomez who passed the ball to Timothy Stephens to narrowly score the first point from outside the goalie box, making the score 1-0.

After battling back and forth down the field for control over the ball, the Panthers remained strong with Tyler Olenak scoring another goal with the assistance from Stephens, raising the score 2-0.

The rest of the half remained steady, with the ball almost never reaching Palo’s side of the field. Things started getting interesting when Rick Gray had an attempt on goal but kicked a little too high causing the ball to go over the net.

As halftime approached, the Panther’s remained in the lead with two points and went for a well-deserved water break.

When the whistle blew to return for the second half of the game, both teams were prepared to battle for the ball. Once again, Palo was determined to come out on top.

Gregory Cook was quick to shoot another goal with the help of an assist from Elad Cohen, bringing the score to a 3-0 lead.

“As the striker, it is my job to score and knowing I did that was amazing for me. It was just a great experience overall,” Cook said.

With an overall successful game, the Panthers held a great link-up play, making the way they connected and moved with the ball amazing. The boys were able to talk with one another throughout the entire game making all their hard work pay off.

“Two things that I really liked [from this game]: We scored three goals and shut them out. Backline anchored by Antonio Gomez and Ryan Nogues did a great job stopping any aerial threats,” Coach Gomez recalls.

The Palo Verde Panthers played with heart and compassion during this game and plan on doing it again at their next game. Come support your Panthers at their next home game Tuesday, Sept. 10th starting at 3:30 pm.
