Panthers Crush Clark Chargers in Flag Football

On Wednesday, December 4th, the Panthers stepped foot onto home turf for their first flag football game of the season against the Clark Chargers. The girls battled hard for their win 20-13.

“I was definitely worried about going against Clark since they’re a strong team, but it was exciting to face them again,” said senior Sydney Park. Park has been apart of the flag football team for all three years, and varsity for two of those.

Seven minutes into the first quarter, Park scored the first touchdown of the game giving the Panthers the lead. The defense stopped the Chargers from scoring for the rest of the quarter leaving the score at 6-0.

Halfway through the second quarter, the Chargers score a touchdown of their own, and claiming the extra point making the score 6-7. The Panthers did not give up as they continued to fight for the yardage. Sophomore Brianna Ty caught a throw from quarterback Jordan Schnitz in the end zone, making the score 12-7, the Panthers now taking back the lead.

“I was on top of the world. That was my first time scoring ever and everyone was cheering and complimenting me. It really took some of the nerves away that I had at the beginning of the game,” Ty said.

The girls went into halftime feeling confident with their strong lead against the Chargers. No more points were scored until the end of the third quarter when Clark reclaimed the lead by scoring another touchdown.

With eight minutes left in the fourth quarter, Madison Brown gave the Panthers the winning score by running in a touchdown of her own. The Panthers claimed the extra point to make the final score.

“It feels amazing knowing that I helped my team to score, but it also makes me realize that without them I couldn’t have done it. I’m just glad it’s a team sport and I don’t have to do it all by myself,” Brown said.

The Panthers put up a tight defense against the Chargers for the remainder of the game and did not let them score again. The girls captured their first victory at home, with a score of 20-13.

“I love all the new friendships that I have made by being on the team. I also love the fact that I get to play a sport that I absolutely love! My third favorite thing about being apart of this team is that I get to hang out and play on the same team as my sister!” said senior Makenna Fields.

Come out and support the girls for their next home game against the Liberty Patriots on Tuesday, December 10th at 4:30pm, when they will hopefully continue their winning streak.
