Senior Spotlight: Luca Mauriello
March 15, 2022
As he walks through the halls of Palo, there’s no shortage of fist bumps and shout outs. Recognized by all, a friend to many and true athlete for our school is Luca Mauriello.
Four years on the football team with three on Varsity, Mauriello is an overall talented player who can play multiple positions. From Quarterback to Running Back, he always excels. Not only is Mauriello a versatile player, but also a leader serving as Captain, where he’s celebrated the team through wins and found motivation in tough losses.
“The feeling of playing football is unlike anything else. I love the excitement when you step on the field or when you make a great play and hear the crowd cheering. You feel like you’re part of something and really contributing to the school,” said Mauriello.
Like many athletes, Mauriello’s passion for sports began at an early age. At six years old he began wrestling and by age seven he was hitting the football field. While many of us were binge watching Netflix over quarantine, Mauriello was putting time in the weight room, always pushing himself to the highest limits. When football season ends each year, he’s never one to sit around and hits the mats on Palo’s wrestling team.
“I strive to be different. I don’t want to be average, I know my potential and I won’t waste it”, expressed Mauriello.
Where does all of this motivation come from? Mauriello credits his dad as his biggest inspiration and supporter throughout his life.
“He pushed me when I thought I wanted to stop. Everything I’ve earned is because of him,” said Mauriello.
As this star senior looks forward to his last few months of high school, he should feel proud of the contributions he’s made to our athletics and student body. There’s no doubt that the love and dedication Mauriello has for his family, friends and teammates will drive his future success.
